Son Invites America to Father’s Arlington Funeral to Honor Over Four Decades of Service
WASHINGTON, D.C. – February 6, 2024 - In a heartfelt appeal to the nation an extraordinary gesture of unity and respect, Thomas Donohue Jr., a 44-year-old resident of Washington, D.C., is extending an open invitation to all Americans to attend the Arlington National Cemetery funeral of his father, Command Sergeant Major Thomas M. This solemn occasion presents an opportunity to honor the life and legacy of Command Sergeant Major Donohue Sr., a decorated veteran of both the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm. "My father dedicated 42 years to the service of this country, impacting countless lives. We welcome everyone to join us in honoring his unwavering commitment to the safety and prosperity of our nation," expressed Donohue Jr.
Command Sergeant Major Donohue Sr. valiantly fought his battles, both on and off the battlefield. Tom Sr’s final battle was lost not on a battlefield but at home in Muncy, PA on December 21, 2023 after a two year fight with pancreatic cancer. His illustrious military career was marked by numerous accolades, including the Legion of Merit Award, the Bronze Star, and the distinguished Order of Saint Martin in September 2002.
Born on a US military base in Munich, Germany, on July 2, 1951, Donohue, Sr. was destined for a life of service. His father, James Donohue, was an Army serviceman, who Tom Sr. followed in his footsteps, enlisting in the Army Reserve in 1969, just after graduating from high school in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He retired in 2011 after rising to the rank of Group Command Sergeant Major. In addition to his reservist role In, 1973, Tom Sr began his civilian service as an Admin Supply Tech with the 303rd Civil Affairs Group in Kearney, NJ. He continued to serve in various capacities, culminating in his civilian role as a Staff Operation & Training Specialist with the 327th Corps Support Battalion in Williamsport, PA.
Donohue Sr, retired in 2011 from both his reservist and civilian jobs at the age of 60. Had the military not forced him out due to his age, Dad would have continued serving. Tom Sr’s Son says, he goes on to say “I'm serious I’m hoping for as many people as possible to join my family and I around his gravesite as we bid our final goodbye.
